When read tracking is enabled for a notification type, messages arrive marked as unread. Opening a message or taking an action on it automatically marks it as read, recording the exact time it was first acknowledged. This gives admins a clear picture of awareness across the team without any extra effort from recipients.
Users can filter their inbox to show only unread messages, making it easy to focus on what still needs attention and actively manage their inbox, much like email.


Mark as Unread
If a message needs revisiting, recipients can manually mark it as unread at any time. This returns it to an unread state in the inbox without affecting the original read timestamp, so engagement data in Message Analytics always reflects when the message was first seen.

On mobile, unread messages are clearly distinguished in your inbox. You can filter for unread messages , and mark any message as unread directly from the message view.
