Start by providing some essential details, such as a descriptive name, the core message content, and key settings.

Name
Give the message type a descriptive name that reflects its purpose, for example "Priority Case Assignment" or "Contract Renewal Due".
Developer Name
Generated automatically from the name, but can be edited at creation. This unique identifier is required when publishing Act On It messages via Flow or Apex. It cannot be changed after the record is saved.
Default Message Content
The core message text displayed to recipients. This appears in the preview so you can validate how it will look before activating. Individual notifications can override this with dynamic content using merge fields pulled from the related record.
Additional Details
Optionally extend the message with supporting information, help text, background context, or a description of where and how this message type is used. Use the description field to note any dependencies, such as notifications or Flows that rely on this message type, to prevent inadvertent deletion.
Data Type
Link the message type to a specific Salesforce object such as Opportunities or Cases. This surfaces relevant record actions and enables merge fields. Leave blank for universal messages not tied to a specific object.
Category
Assign a category to allow recipients to filter their inbox by type, priority, or team. Categories are defined by the admin and applied consistently across message types.
Once you have configure your Message Details, click "Next" to continue.
