Once Act On It is installed and package licenses are assigned, users must be grouped into one of three permission levels, known as User Types:

• Standard User – Can receive and interact with Act On It messages.
• Super User – Can do everything a Standard User can, plus design, create, and manage alerts and notifications.
• Admin User – Can do everything a Super User can, plus manage user permissions, application settings, and message actions.

Assigning User Types

Act On It uses a picklist field on the User record called: Act On It User Type. This picklist is what controls Act On It access.

When you update this field:

• The relevant permission sets are assigned automatically
• Supporting updates run in the background
• The user appears under Application Settings

Changing or clearing the value automatically updates or removes permissions as well.

1. Navigate to the user record in Setup.
2. Locate the "Act On It User Type" picklist.
3. Choose the appropriate type.
4. Save.

Tools such as the Salesforce Data Loader can be used to assign user types in bulk. 

Can’t See the Picklist?

If you don’t see Act On It User Type on the user record, the field likely hasn’t been added to the page layout yet. A Salesforce Admin can add it in a few clicks:

1. Go to Setup
2. Open Object Manager
3. Select User
4. Click User Page Layouts
5. Edit the relevant layout
6. Drag Act On It User Type onto the layout
7. Click Save
   

Repeat steps 5–7 if multiple user page layouts are in use. Once added, return to the user record and refresh. The picklist should now be visible.
